On 5 April 2023, the Fencing Federation of Ukraine filed a claim to the District Court of Lausanne with a view to taking preventive measures in the form of suspension of the execution of the decision issued by the Extraordinary Congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) dated 10 March 2023 on the admission of Russian and Belarusian athletes, as well as officials of the Russian and Belarusian fencing federations, to participating in individual and group competitions. The Fencing Federation of Ukraine requests from the court to restrict any actions of the FIE and its bodies aimed at fulfilling the decision of the FIE Extraordinary Congress.
The case is being handled by Niederer Kraft Frey SA (Switzerland) and Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm (Ukraine). Ukrainian Fencing Federation receives legal support from Ilyashev & Partners pro bono.
On 30 March 2023, the Fencing Federation of Ukraine filed a claim at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) seeking revocation of the International Fencing Federation’s decision on Russian and Belarusian athletes’ return to international competitions within qualification for the Olympic Games-2024.
