Marina Riashchenko Delivers a Speech at the Ukrainian-Estonian Business Forum Within the Framework of the Official Visit to Ukraine of the President of the Republic of Estonia

Marina Riashchenko, Attorney at Law, Counsel at Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm, delivered a speech at the Ukrainian-Estonian Business Forum held on 1 June 2023 during the official visit to Kyiv of the President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis.

The President of the Republic of Estonia Alar Karis, Minister of Economic Affairs and Information Technology Tiit Riisalo, owners and managerial officials of the leading Estonian companies in the sphere of real estate, energy, arms trade industry, information technologies, cybersecurity, consulting, transport and railroad transportation attended the forum. The event was organized by the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Estonia, the Embassy of the Republic of Estonia in Ukraine, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications of Estonia.

In an overview of prospects and priorities of Ukrainian-Estonian economic cooperation, Marina talked about the changes in the business climate in Ukraine and the modernization of legislation. Marina provided detailed information about the nuances of the activities faced by foreign companies in Ukraine: the process of a company establishment, the particularities of the tax system of Ukraine for foreign entrepreneurs, privileges, currency regulations, the specifics of export/import, tendering procedures, etc. Marina paid special attention to the most common challenges that foreign business may face and ways to solve them.

“The status of a candidate for EU membership largely determines the reform of Ukrainian legislation and the adaptation of the business environment to EU standards. In the conditions of war, it is especially important to strengthen relations with foreign partners, strengthen trade and provide favorable conditions for attracting foreign investments,”Marina Riashchenko said.

Director of the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office Andrii Remizov, Head of the Temporary Special Commission of the Verkhovna Rada on the Protection of Investors’ Rights Halyna Yanchenko, as well as the President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Gennadiy Chyzhykov also spoke at the forum.

This is the fifth business forum organized in Ukraine for Estonian businesses with the participation of Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm, and the second one held since the beginning of the war. In June 2022, in cooperation with our partners in Northern Europe – Glimstedt Law Firm, Ilyashev & Partners hosted in Kyiv the first international business delegation that visited Ukraine during the war.
