Mariia Koval, the Attorney at Law of Intellectual Property Practice at Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm, delivered a speech on Domain Name Disputes Resolution at the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center at the IV International Forum on Intellectual Property, held on 5 June in Kyiv.
In her report Mariia Koval emphasized that since 19 March 2019 the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center has been providing domain name dispute resolution services for the .UA domain (Ukraine). The Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) was developed by WIPO in 1999 to combat cybersquatting.
“The advantages of domain name disputes consideration by the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center are the relative speed, internationality of the parties, lower costs and the absence of the need for the parties to be present”, — said Mariia Koval.
The session participants discussed various issues related to the protection of trademarks and geographical indications, peculiarities of trademark registration in the EU member states and counteraction to counterfeit.
Forum was attended by over 250 lawyers specializing in the intellectual property protection, legal advisers, patent attorneys, forensic experts, judges and representatives of public authorities. The event is organized by the Yurydychna Praktyka Publishing House.
