On November 16, 2011, the seminar-presentation of the new ICC Rules of Arbitration was held in Kyiv with the support of six leading law firms of Ukraine and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).
The seminar was a successful example of the law firms cooperation Arzinger, Asters, CMS Cameron McKenna, Engarde, Egorov, Puginsky, Afanasiev & Partners and Ilyashev & Partners, as well as their social responsibility to the rest of the legal community. The Organizing Committee not only held the seminar-presentation, but also jointly ensured accurate translation of the arbitration rules to the Ukrainian language to make them more accessible and reduce barrier to their use in Ukraine.
The seminar was opened by Volodymyr Mykhailov, First Vice-President of the Ukrainian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC). Michael Bühler, Partner of Jones Day (France) and Co-Chairman of the Task Force on the Revision of the ICC Rules of Arbitration, and Galyna Zhukova, Councellor of the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris were invited for the presentation of innovations. The speakers talked about the key developments and practical application of the new arbitration rules. In particular, they touched upon the formation of composition of the tribunal, peculiarities of complex arbitrations (multiplicity of parties, multiple agreements, joining the case and consolidation of cases), ICC arbitrations with participation of states and state-owned enterprises and other issues.
The event was attended by about 100 participants, including heads and specialists of the corporate legal departments, and representatives of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine and other organizations. In addition, students, postgraduates and lecturers of the Institute of International Relations of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and other higher educational establishments were invited to participate in the event. They had a unique opportunity to improve their professional knowledge and communicate with the leading specialists in the field of international arbitration.
