On April 16-17 the First national forum on promotion and support of export trade was held. The event was organized by Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce with support of the Government of Ukraine, the Business Council under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine and Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs.
Olena Omelchenko, a lawyer at Ilyashev and Partners Law Firm and a specialist in international trade, delivered a presentation entitled “Legal remedies of protection of the exporters’ interests within the framework of instruments applied by the World Trade Organization” where she zeroed in on the problems impeding generation of requests for settlement of disputes in the WTO and adequate protection of the companies’ interests. Olena also marked the need of the State to stipulate for settlement of the services provided by foreign legal advisers in the process of protection of interests under the WTO matters and the necessity to develop the legal framework for collection of evidence and appeals advanced by the businesses regarding problematic matters.
The event was organized for the national exporters and companies having the intent to introduce their products and services to the world markets, as well as to improve business environment and attract foreign investments to Ukraine.
Among the speakers at the Forum were the directors of leading Ukrainian and foreign companies, investment and other funds involved into provision of financial and technical assistance, heads of international and local financial and banking institutions, insurance companies, in particular, the EBRD, Ukreximbank, UNIQA etc. Foreign speakers were represented by representatives of international diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine, heads of credit and export agencies of Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, France, China, Kazakhstan and of a number of other international organizations.
The program of the event covered a wide range of matters, including government support of the national export trade, improvement of Ukrainian business environment, financial and credit mechanisms on promotion of export activities, modernization of objects of infrastructure and industry according to international standards, as well as the issues of overcoming the trade barriers on the way of Ukrainian products to the world markets.
