Experience
Roman Protsyshyn has over 15 years of experience representing Ukrainian and international companies, state authorities, and private clients in international arbitration proceedings and cross-border litigation in the United Kingdom, the United States, EU member states, and Ukraine.
He specializes in international commercial and investment arbitration under the rules of leading arbitral institutions, including VIAC, ICAC at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI), ICC, GAFTA, FOSFA, LCIA, CAS, ICSID, as well as in ad hoc arbitrations, including proceedings under the UNCITRAL and LMAA Rules.
Roman also has substantial experience in the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards and interim measures in support of arbitration, acting directly before Ukrainian courts and organising such proceedings abroad in cooperation with local counsel on commercially efficient terms for clients.
His dispute resolution practice covers the arms trade, energy, civil and military aviation, heavy industry, banking and finance, corporate law, and the protection of foreign investments in Ukraine with a view to subsequent investment arbitration. He also represents clients in sports industry matters.
Roman provides comprehensive legal support throughout the arbitration process – from developing a strategy and complying with pre-arbitration requirements to securing effective enforcement of arbitral awards in jurisdictions where the debtor’s assets are located, or obtaining arbitral awards in favour of the client while minimising adverse financial consequences.
Among his key projects is representing the interests of Ukraine in the first inter-state arbitration under the EU–Ukraine Association Agreement, as well as acting in high-profile international disputes in the arms trade sector (State Enterprise “State Specialized Foreign Trade Firm “Progress” v. OTL Firearms and Imports Corporation), banking transactions, energy contracts, and investment projects.
Roman also has substantial expertise in sports arbitration, advising athletes, federations, and sports organizations and representing them before national sports arbitration institutions and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
