Ilyashev & Partners Participates in Intergovernmental Trade Negotiations between Ukraine and Egypt

News date: 21 August 2015

Olena Omelchenko, lawyer at Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm and a freelance adviser to the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, represented PJSC “ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih” during the visit of the governmental delegation of Ukraine to the Republic of Egypt on August 18-20. The delegation of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade was headed by Natalia Mykolska, Deputy Minister – Trade Representative of Ukraine. The delegation of the Egyptian party was headed by Mounir Abdel Nour, Minister of Trade, Industry and SMEs. The visit was dedicated to the Ukrainian-Egyptian consultations on application of Egypt’s restrictive measures against imports of steel rebar. In particular, during the negotiations the parties discussed application by the Egyptian party of 8% protective duty on imports of steel rebar and a possible increase of import duty from 0 to 10%. Such actions will greatly complicate access of the Ukrainian producers of steel products to the Egyptian market. As a result of the visit the parties agreed to resume a bilateral trade dialogue between the countries, which would eliminate the existing trade restrictions. In November of the current year, the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and the Ukrainian-Egyptian business forum will be held.
