On April 24, the meeting of the Public Council attached to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine was held. The Council began to work in a new, significantly reshaped composition. The election of management of the Public Council Management was on the agenda. The NGO representatives being the members of the Public Council elected Igor Stepanovich Marienko, famous social activist and attorney, the representative of the Committee of Constitutional and Legal Control of Ukraine, as the Chairman of the Council by preferential voting.
Yurii Leonidovich Grabowskyi, the Secretary of the Kyiv Bar Council, was elected as the First Deputy Chairman of the Council, Larisa Anatolievna Susorova and Vadim Moneviarovich Habibullin became the Deputy Chairmen of the Council. Maksym Volodymyrovych Kopeychykov, the representative of the Ukrainian Law Firms Association, Partner of Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm, was elected as the Secretary of the Public Council.
The new management of the Public Council assured the present representatives of
civil society that the Public Council attached to the Ministry of Justice will be more active than during the previous tenure of the agency and will aim primarily at maintaining effective dialogue with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine to ensure observation of the public interests during development and approval of draft laws and other regulations.
The members of the Public Council were offered to submit proposals on the main areas of work of the Council in the coming year and establish the permanent Council’s committees to cooperate with the relevant departments of the Ministry of Justice and public agencies managed through the Minister of Justice.
