Olena Omelchenko, the Partner, Attorney at Law and Head of International Trade Practice, delivered a speech at the forum Industry in the Context of Ecological Modernization of the Economy: The European Green Deal, which took place on 26 November 2020. The event was organized by the Federation of Employers of Ukraine.
Olena Omelchenko noted that the EU’s position on green policy concerns not only the environment – it is the protection of the EU internal market and, in fact, neo-protectionism. “The European Union plans to introduce emission taxes based on the environmental requirements, and will defend its position in the WTO. Therefore, Ukrainian business should not wait aside, but formulate the tasks for the Government, – she said. – The protection on the part of Ukraine must combine an extension of period for joining the Green Deal and the use of development opportunities within the framework of Green Deal, including the creation of a circular economy with waste recycling companies”.
According to Olena Omelchenko, the EU will strictly defend the green policy rules and any further deviations will definitely be problematic.
