Nina Bets, a lawyer at Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm, delivered a speech entitled “Global change, what the Ukrainian tax system requires” at the round table “Tax incentives for economic growth”, which was held on 26 June 2020 in Kyiv. The event was organized by the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia newspaper with the support of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine.
According to Nina Bets, the need for practical changes in the Ukrainian tax system stems from the level of tax burden, which slows down business development and makes entrepreneurs relocate their tax residency. First of all, it is necessary to improve communication by explaining the tax rules to small and medium-sized businesses, for example, through the Portal “Diia”.
“At Ilyashev & Partners we solve various problems originating between tax authorities and taxpayers. We still often observe sending unsubstantial information requests, untimely submission of reports due to technical failures of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine, which results in the fines levied onto taxpayers, – said Nina Bets. – Transformation of the tax office from a body collecting taxes into a tax service for taxpayers should be the high-priority task nowadays”.
The round table was also attended by: Mykhailo Tytarchuk, Deputy Head of the State Tax Service of Ukraine; Oleg Ustenko, Advisor to the President and Member of the Council for Economic Development under the Government of Ukraine; Konstantin Shvabiy, Doctor of Economics, Professor of the University of the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine; Artem Semorodov, Tax Expert.
