Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm acts as legal counsel to the Estonian non-profit organization – MTÜ Slava Ukraini, representing the organization’s interests in high-profile court proceedings for the recovery of pecuniary and reputational damages arising from the misappropriation of charitable funds.
The case concerns the charges against a Ukrainian citizen, H. Vaskiv, for the illegal seizure of humanitarian aid allocated by Slava Ukraini for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine through the controlled entity IC Construction LLC. It was established that, under the guise of providing various services, the non-profit’s funds were siphoned off through a network of intermediaries, specifically through overpricing and the provision of fictitious services.
The Frankivskyi District Court of Lviv City is hearing the merits of the case against H. Vaskiv. Concurrently, in Estonia, a separate investigation is underway regarding the actions of Johanna-Maria Lehtme, the former head and founder of Slava Ukraini.
Legal support and representation for the organization in Ukraine is provided by the prominent Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm. The total amount of claims exceeds UAH 38 million, which includes UAH 18 million in pecuniary damages established during the investigation by the State Bureau of Investigation, and UAH 20 million in compensation for non-pecuniary harm for significant damage to the organization’s business reputation.
Vaskiv is currently outside of Ukraine and has been placed on the international wanted list. Ilyashev & Partners continues to take all necessary procedural measures to protect the client’s interests and restore justice through judicial proceedings.
The project is handled by Ilyashev & Partners’ lawyers Denys Shevchenko and Yaroslav Mudryi, led by Senior Partner Roman Marchenko.
The project is being implemented in close coordination with Estonian partners. Legal aid coordination and support for Slava Ukraini are provided by Randu Riiberg, Attorney at Law and Partner at the international law firm Glimstedt.
“This case is a matter of principle not only for our client but for the entire volunteer movement. We are utilizing all legal mechanisms to recover the funds, which must be directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” stated Roman Marchenko.
