On December 18, 2014 the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine organized a panel discussion under the theme: “Legal protection of interests of Ukraine in connection with aggression of the Russian Federation in the Eastern Ukraine and annexation of Crimea”. The panel was visited by the representatives of leading international and Ukrainian law firms.
During the workshop, the participants discussed the steps necessary to lodge an appeal to the International Court of Justice, looked into the possibility of pre-trial settlement and diplomatic negotiations, as well as reviewed the experience of Georgia.
In addition, the participants turned their attention to the issues of investment arbitration and achieving a balance between protection of the interests of foreign investors and the interests of Ukraine, as well as protection of the state interests in disputes initiated by foreign investors against Ukraine (including Russian investors).
During the seminar, international trade lawyer at Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm Olena Omelchenko delivered a presentation under the title “Legal means of protection of interests of Ukraine in the World Trade Organization”.
