Ilyashev & Partners Held an International Conference “Trade Wars: Art of Protection”

On 7 November 2019 Ilyashev & Partners Law Firm held the conference “Trade Wars: Art of Protection”. The conference was organized with support from its partners, namely, the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Ukrainian Chemists Union, the Ukrainian Association of Manufacturers of Ferroalloys and Other Electrometallurgical Products (UkrFA), the Association of Enterprises Ukrmetalurgprom and the Association of Cement Producers of Ukraine Ukrcement.

The conference participants discussed global challenges facing Ukrainian exporters, the implications of European integration formalization in the Government’s Program of Action for Ukrainian producers, the prospects of “industrial visa-free regime” and the integration of energy and digital markets, the ways to settle Ukraine’s trade relations with Great Britain after the Brexit, the WTO reform, overcoming the crisis of the international trade system, and regionalization of economies.

“The world trade is changing: the new free trade agreements are being concluded, and the EU has improved its trade protection system. Therefore, it is now important how Ukraine responds, – said Olena Omelchenko, the Partner and Head of International Trade Practice at Ilyashev & Partners. – Any trade war ends up with a compromise and the establishment of new trade rules. Therefore, it is the business that always has new opportunities for good sales”.

A special session was devoted to exchanging views of representatives of business, industry associations, officials and experts, who, on the basis of real-life examples, demonstrated how business interests in national and international markets can be protected.

The conference was attended by the following speakers: Dmytro Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine; Taras Kachka, Deputy Minister of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture – Trade Representative of Ukraine; Nataliya Sydoruk, Director of the Department for the Protection of Trade of the Ministry for Development of Economy, Trade and Agriculture; Hleb Brydnia, Head of Trade Investigations Department at Interpipe Group; Sergiy Kudriavtsev, Executive Director of the Ukrainian Association of Manufacturers of Ferroalloys and Other Electrometallurgical Products (UkrFA); Pavlo Kachur, Chairman of Ukrcement; Oleksandr Kalenkov, President of Ukrmetalurgprom; Denis Krasnikov, Vice-President of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs; Ihor Golchenko, Vice-President of the Ukrainian Chemists Union.

The conference was attended by more than 160 Ukrainian and foreign business executives, representatives of the public sector, foreign states embassies, industrial enterprises, and industry associations.
